OCPI Migration support v2.2.1 -> v2.3.0
OCPI 2.3.0 focuses on two primary goals:
- Regulatory Compliance
OCPI 2.3.0 ensures compliance with new laws and regulatory requirements becoming effective in 2025. The changes in this release primarily address transparency obligations, taxation requirements (including North American tax support), accessibility considerations, and enhanced consumer information. - Extensibility
OCPI 2.3.0 introduces structural enhancements that enable extensibility of the protocol. It becomes possible to add new modules, fields, and enum values without breaking interoperability between implementations.
OCPI 2.3.0 builds on version 2.2.1 and introduces a limited set of changes. However, adding new modules, fields, and enum values may require implementation updates.

OCPI v2.3.0 with booking module is similar to V2.3.0 with additional booking functionalities for HDVs and other vehicle types. The booking module contains a.o. following functionalities:
- Making and modifying booking
- Possibility to use different calendars
- Booking at location or charge point level
- Booking based on number plate
- Support of all kind of booking related fees, including no-show fees.
The EVRoaming Foundation aims to support the accessibility of charging infrastructure for all users. Everyone should be able to find a charging station that meets their needs and is easy to use, including people with disabilities who may require additional accessibility and usability support. The EVRoaming Foundation partners with the European Commission, UK Department for Transport, and several other governments and regulators to improve this.
The OCPI Accessibility Extension aims to ensure that disabled people are able to determine whether a charging station can be used according to their individual accessibility needs. This extension is designed to be applicable across multiple OCPI versions starting from v2.3.0.
It is only an extension of data in Location module. It does not change existing items nor has it impact on other modules.
Because accessibility requirements vary, the usability of a charging station cannot be expressed through a single indicator. It depends on a set of data elements describing physical characteristics, usability features, and environmental factors that influence access and operation.
The purpose of this extension is to define and standardize those data elements at the OCPI level, enabling interoperability between market parties and supporting informed accessibility-related decisions by users and services.

As OCPI 2.2.1 has some crucial improvement compared to v2.2, v2.2 will not be supported anymore.
Main improvements for OCPI v2.2.1 compared to 2.2 can be found in this file: OCPI v2.2.1 changes
Deliverable d2 has important updates in the description HOW to use the specifications. It should reduce confusion about how to use the specs.

OCPI 2.2.1 is a major step forward. Nevertheless, the community is already looking ahead, because developments in this field are progressing rapidly. Responding to these developments remains important. OCPI continues to evolve.
To support CPOs with payment terminals that are not directly connected to and part of the charge station, e.g. at charge squares and situation with POS terminal in a shop, the EVRoaming foundation developed (with great support of Chargepoint) the Direct Payment module that can work together with OCPI v.2.2.1.
OCPI 3.0 review version is now available. Besides major architectural improvements, it also contains improved and new modules/services. We aim that these new services can also be used in combination with OCPI v.2.2.1. and OCPI v2.3.0.
The ZIP file contains all documents including a review sheet. Anyone who has usable feedback is invited to share it preferable via the review sheet. Negative feedback that is totally not usable will be ignored and removed. Finally it is up to the EVRoaming Foundation to decide what to do with the feedback – everyone can join the Foundation and participate in this process.
